Paying with a credit or debit card

You pay at the start of each module – when you register – with a credit or debit card, or via bank transfer.

Paying with a credit card

We accept payment by American Express, Maestro (UK only), Mastercard, Visa/Delta and Visa Electron.

Bear in mind that there are various ways of covering or reducing the cost of your postgraduate studies. For example, you can pay your fees in instalments with an Open University Student Budget Account (OUSBA).

Previous studies could count towards your Open University qualification, which means you’ll pay less with us. We call this system of offsetting previous study ‘credit transfer’.

If you’re employed and your studies are relevant to your work, you could ask your employer about being paid to study.

Mixed payments may also be an option; some of our students pay part of their tuition fee with a debit card and pay the remainder in instalments through OUSBA. Contact us if you’d like to do this.

To someone worried about the cost of studying with The Open University I’d say if you know what you want to do and a qualification is important for you, then go for it because you can pay it back later and slowly… The Open University is more flexible than an ‘ordinary’ university and you can earn while you’re doing it. When my daughter’s older, I want to do a PhD with The Open University.
