How to apply for a grant and/or loan
Enrol on your first module

Visit StudentHome to enrol on your first module(s). -
Choose Part-Time Fee Grant and Part-Time Tuition Fee Loan as your preferred payment option.
Register with Student Finance Northern Ireland
Complete your OU enrolment

Visit StudentHome and tell us your CRN. -
When you give us your CRN, you are agreeing to pay your fees by loan and/or grant, and you will be registered on your course subject to your funding being fully approved.
Continue your SFNI application

Sign in to SFNI and complete an online application. -
You’ll need to download and/or print the Course Intensity Confirmation Form and submit it via our online form or email it to us at[email protected] . -
If you’re applying for a Fee Grant, you should submit your income evidence to SFNI as soon as you have completed the online application. SFNI will not be able to process your application without this evidence. -
Please contact us if your loan application is declined or withdrawn. We can discuss alternative payment options with you so that you can still start your course.
Completing your grant and/or loan application

SFNI will process your application (which can take 6 to 8 weeks) and will send you a Student Finance Entitlement letter to confirm what you’re entitled to.
Payment of grants and loans

Your fee grant and loan will be paid to us directly by SFNI once we've confirmed that you've started your module. -
Your course grant will be paid directly into your bank account by SFNI. -
If the course grant is for your first OU module, the payment may take up to six weeks after your module start date and will only be released once your module fees have been paid in full.
