Part-Time Fee Grant for students living in Scotland
How to apply for your fee grant
1. Register on your qualification
-
First, register on your qualification by going to the webpage of your chosen qualification, selecting your preferred start date and clicking on 'Register Now'. -
Next, set up an OU student account. This will give you access to StudentHome , where you can choose and enrol on your module(s). -
Choose the module(s) you want to study this academic year – you’ll see an option on your StudentHome to ‘Choose your modules’. Note your module start and end dates and number of credits, as you'll need this information to hand when applying for financial support. -
Next, continue your module enrolment by selecting ‘Financial Support’ as your preferred payment option. -
When asked ‘How do you want to pay?’, select ‘Part-Time Fee Grant’. -
You will then be asked questions to confirm your eligibility for PTFG. -
On the next screen, you will be asked to 'Pay Now' or 'Pay Later'. If you are happy to confirm that you will pay by PTFG and complete your registration, you should choose ‘Pay Now’. Select 'Pay Later' if you want to return to complete your registration. -
You do not need to have your PTFG funding awarded by choosing ‘Pay Now’ at this stage. You are confirming you wish to complete your registration and will be applying for PTFG at the same time. -
If you choose ‘Pay Later’ you should return and complete your registration via StudentHome before the reservation expiry date. -
If you’ve already chosen your module and come back later to complete enrolment, click ‘Track your application progress’ under the relevant module’s section on StudentHome. This will take you to a page where you can see your ‘Module status’. Click on the link to ‘confirm your registration’. Once in the online registration system, choose 'Pay Now' when you reach ‘How do you want to pay?'. -
After choosing ‘Pay Now’, you will be asked to complete your ILA number, which you should have if you have applied for PTFG. This is not compulsory, but this information is helpful to us when communicating with SAAS about your PTFG application.
2. Submit your fee grant application to SAAS
-
Then, complete an application for financial support via the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) website. If you are applying for financial support from SAAS for the first time, you'll need to register with SAAS and create an account . If you've already got an account, you'll need tolog in to the SAAS portal . -
Once SAAS has processed your funding application, your SAAS portal will be updated to inform you that it is pending OU validation. -
We will check the accuracy of the module details you submitted. Should this be accurate, we will ‘validate’ your application, and SAAS will confirm the final award. You do not need to take any action during this time.
Tips for completing your fee grant application
-
If you've applied to SAAS for funding before, you'll need either your SAAS Learner ID or your Part-Time Learner ID (10 digits). These can be found in a previous award letter or via the SAAS portal. If you do not have either of these, you should contact SAAS . -
You'll need to input details of your gross income, including any benefits you receive. Please note this applies to the financial year ending April, so if you are applying for a module in the 2026/2027 academic year, your income is based on the 2025/2026 financial year ending April 2026. -
You'll need to input information about your module(s), such as the number of SCQF credits (30, 60, 90 or 120) and start and end dates. These can be found in the module information in your StudentHome. -
Try to be as accurate as possible with this information, as the total funds awarded will be based on the information entered on your application.
