This honours degree in fine art has three stages, each comprising 120 credits.

Stage 1 (120 credits)

You'll begin your artistic journey by exploring visual communication across various media. Throughout this stage, you'll experiment with 2D, 3D, and 4D techniques, such as drawing, sculpture, and video work. Alongside developing practical skills, you'll study visual culture to build a solid contextual understanding of art. You'll have access to virtual studios where you can connect with peers and relevant materials, completing assignments that help you apply your learning and present your ideas effectively. This foundational stage will help you discover your strengths and interests within the broad field of fine art.

Stage 2 (120 credits)

Building on your foundation, you'll deepen your practice in your chosen disciplines while broadening your awareness of contemporary fine art. You'll explore how artists communicate ideas through various means, including text and cypher. Throughout this stage, you'll engage in collaborative projects with peers, experimenting with new approaches and taking creative risks. This stage encourages you to look beyond your own practice and consider fine art in a global context, helping you develop a more sophisticated understanding of your place within the art world.

Stage 3 (120 credits)

In this final stage, you'll refine your creative and academic inquiry, analysing the contemporary art world and your position within it. You'll learn to present yourself and your work professionally, undertaking self-directed research in your specialist area. Throughout this stage, you'll integrate practice and theory, allowing your creative work to be underpinned by growing knowledge and understanding. You'll develop your critical reflection skills, considering how cultural, social, and political contexts frame your work and fine art as a whole. By the end of this stage, you'll have produced a substantial body of work that demonstrates your unique artistic voice and your readiness for professional practice or further study.

This open-access degree welcomes students from all backgrounds. No formal qualifications are required – just bring your passion for art and willingness to learn. To engage fully with the course materials and community, you'll need basic IT skills, a reliable internet connection, and English language proficiency equivalent to CEFR B2.
