All of this module's study materials are online. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, audio and audio-visual clips, diagrams, interactive media, animations and multiple-choice, self-assessed quizzes. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and tutorial rooms.

This module provides a range of learning events including online rooms and forums. We may also be able to offer group tutorials online. Although not compulsory, participation in these events will help you consolidate your learning.
You will be encouraged to work with other students. This includes looking at and commenting on others' work and reflecting on others' comments on your work.
Computer-based practical work is a required component of assessment.
The study materials contain a number of diagrams, graphs and figures. Reading and interpreting these is an important part of the study of this module. Figure descriptions are not provided.
You will be asked to search for, and make use of, third-party material online which complements the module text, but is not assessed.
In this module you will be working with specialist materials including a small amount of elementary musical and mathematical notation, and software that enables you to analyse and edit sound recordings. These are delivered online.
This module has tutor-marked assignments, one interactive computer-marked assignment and an end-of-module assessment.
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
This module uses Sonic Visualiser and Reaper software, which displays a range of visual images of sound on your computer screen and enables you to manipulate and edit musical sounds. The end-of-module assessment requires you to produce a mobile phone/smartphone ringtone using this software. No alternative assessment is provided.
