Most of this module’s study materials are online. Online materials comprise pages of text with images, audio/video clips (with transcripts/subtitles), diagrams, interactive media, and animations. The materials also include links to external resources, and online forums and tutorial rooms.
This module provides a range of learning events, including lectures, online tutorials, check-ins and project reviews. You should engage with these events as part of the development of your design skills and expertise.
You’re encouraged to work with other students. This includes looking at and commenting on others’ work, reflecting on others’ comments on your work, and/or working with fellow learners on a specific task.
Practical work is a critical part of the module. Practical work includes using design skills such as photography or sketching and methods such as mapping or observation to complete design tasks and projects. Some design tasks may involve interaction with others (such as fellow students or potential users/clients from your personal or professional environment).
The study materials contain many visual materials, such as diagrams and photographs. Producing visual materials is an important part of the study of this module. We provide descriptions for all essential figures.
You may be required to search for and use third-party material online. We can provide alternatives for required/assessed research material, enabling you to meet the module’s learning outcomes.
This module has tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) and an end-of-module assessment (EMA) you must submit via our online TMA/EMA service.
You’ll receive feedback from your tutor and fellow students, including regular project reviews and in the online studio. You’ll receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted tutor-marked assignments (TMAs). Feedback on TMAs will help you to reflect on your performance and prepare for your next assignment.
We structure all modules to a set timetable; you’ll need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. We’ll support you in developing these skills.
