This certificate introduces you to the natural and social sciences behind today’s most pressing challenges, from climate change to sustainable living. You’ll study how human activity affects the world around us, and how scientific and social insights can guide better decisions for the future. Along the way, you’ll build analytical and critical thinking skills that are useful in many settings. It’s also a first step towards further study in environmental science and related fields.
This environment certificate has one stage, comprising 120 credits.
You’ll study one 60-credit module introducing topical environmental issues and choose one 60-credit option module exploring the underpinning scientific ideas or investigating global challenges from a social sciences perspective.

You can achieve this certificate in as little as one year and have a maximum of seven years to complete it. Our module-by-module approach gives you the flexibility to complete your qualification at a pace that works best for you.
You can complete this certificate in one year by studying at a pace equivalent to full-time. That’s similar to a student at a campus-based university.
You can complete this certificate in two years by studying part-time. That’s roughly half the rate of a student on a full-time course at a campus-based university.
