The Open University has a long legacy of research that combines design thinking and innovation approaches with systemic and environmental issues. From the early exploration of renewable energy technologies and policy, and ecodesign and green innovation strategies, to more recent work addressing circular economies, design ecologies, urban futures, indigenous knowledge and regenerative design. We address the relational and multi-scale nature of design for sustainability in diverse contexts. We contribute to the knowledge that informs the transformation required for sustainable futures.
We would love to hear from you if you are interested in being a doctoral candidate with us, and particularly if you are interested in the following areas of research:
