There are complex connections between conflict, security, and development. The securitisation and militarisation of various global regions, and aspects of everyday life, intersect with and impact many development issues. While processes of social change can be violent and generate conflict, development is often framed as a means of ensuring peace and security. The relationships between conflict, security and development receive increasing attention within development policy and practice at local, national, international, and global scales.
Understanding this contentious field requires critical engagement with the interests and capabilities of various actors, including states, non-state armed actors, non-governmental organisations, and multinational corporations.
We are interested in how conflict and security relate to different development issues, including climate change, health, the use of information and communications technologies, and migration. We draw on a range of disciplinary perspectives in our work, including history, political science, anthropology, and criminology, and welcome interdisciplinary and methodologically innovative projects.
