This research theme examines the opportunities and inequalities that emerge within multicultural societies, asking how citizenship, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality and class intersect and influence people's lives and experiences. We investigate pressing contemporary issues, including transnationalism and diaspora, media, migration and cultural production, citizenship and identities, religion and the role of faith in urban life.

By combining critical social theory with innovative empirical research, we seek to understand the complex forces that shape inclusion, exclusion and social change. As a postgraduate researcher, you will be supported to develop original, impactful research that contributes to academic debate while addressing real-world challenges. Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent). If you are not a UK citizen, you may need to prove your knowledge of English.
