Sociology at The Open University has a long history of engagement with psychoanalysis and the psychosocial, not least in the work of Stuart Hall and Bob Bobcock. This interest is more vibrant today than ever. Peter Redman co-edits the journal Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society; Jessica Evans has worked extensively on psychoanalysis, culture and media, including on a number of important collaborations with Stuart Hall; and emeritus professor, Kath Woodward has recently published Psychosocial Studies: An Introduction (Routledge).
Our ongoing research in this area has strong links to the Psychosocial research cluster in the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance (CCIG) and research students will be part of a strong and sympathetic research community in the Faculty. We welcome applications in all areas of psychoanalytic sociology and the psychosocial, particularly those orientated towards the post-Kleinian and object relations traditions, and sociological explorations that challenge the boundaries of sociology with those informed by psychosocial and psychoanalytic approaches.
Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent). If you are not a UK citizen, you may need to prove your knowledge of English.
