Accessibility statement
There is a balance of online and printed study materials. Online materials are composed of audio and video clips of 1–5 minutes long (all with transcripts/subtitles); and interactive activities, including multiple‑choice self-assessed quizzes, interactive media and diagrams to interpret. Online materials also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms. Printed materials are provided for the three blocks of study and PDF alternatives are also available.
This module includes learning events which are offered through online tutorials. Although not compulsory, attendance at tutorials will help you consolidate your learning. These will also be recorded and can be accessed at your convenience.
You will be required to work with other students and this is monitored but not assessed. This includes looking at and commenting on others’ ideas, reflecting on others’ comments on your ideas, and/or working together with fellow learners on a topic area.
There is no formal practical work element; however, engaging with young children (birth to seven) and gaining practice experience during the module is strongly recommended, as it will enhance your learning.
The study materials contain a considerable number of photographs and diagrams. Interpreting photographs and diagrams, as well as producing individual examples of diagrams, is part of the study of this module, but they are not assessed. Descriptions are provided for all figures.
You may be required to search for and make use of third‑party material, but these elements of the module are not assessed.
This module has Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system.
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time‑management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
This module adheres to the guidance for fitness for professional practice regarding working with children. It is your responsibility to ensure the necessary criminal record clearance for the setting and country in which you are working and that you meet the fit person criteria.
