What makes a progressive sense of place? Who and what, exactly, are cities open to in the present political conjuncture? These are the kind of questions motivating this research area concerned with rethinking the many struggles, conflicts and coexistences shaping everyday urban life. Exploring the changing configurations of space, power and politics, our research includes work on the remaking of health and the local state, urban politics, infrastructures, identities, disability justice and the possibilities of designing cities and the built environment differently.
Much of our research works closely with local government, NHS, third sector organisations and activists, often adopting creative and participatory approaches to open up geographical research to wider publics and constituencies.
