Mode of study
The module is presented through a blend of printed and online material. Printed materials consist of two module textbooks. All material in the books is also available in pdf form or (for Unit Introductions) with the online materials. Online materials are composed of pages of text with images, audio/video clips (all with transcripts/subtitles), diagrams, and interactive media. Online materials may also include links to external resources, online forums and online tutorial rooms.
Tuition strategy
Tuition will take place online through online tutorials and forums. Although not compulsory, attendance at learning events will help you consolidate your learning. Your tutor will also keep in contact by phone.
Working with others
You will be asked to contribute to online forums and to look at, and comment on, online posts by other students. Your contribution to online forums is assessed as part of four of the tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) on the module. If you have trouble working online or working with others reasonable adjustments will be made for you where possible.
Diagrams and other visual content
The study materials contain a considerable number of images. Image descriptions are provided for all the images which are essential to learning. Many images will also be available online in zoomable format.
Finding information
You may be required to search for, and make use of, third party material online. Alternatives for required/assessed research material can be provided to enable you to meet the Learning Outcomes of the module.
Assessment
This module has 5 Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs), which must be submitted online via the OU electronic TMA system and an End-of-Module Assessment (EMA) submitted online.
Feedback
You will receive feedback from your tutor on your submitted Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs). This will help you to reflect on your TMA performance. You should refer to it to help you prepare for your next assignment.
Schedule
All University modules are structured according to a set timetable and you will need time-management skills to keep your studies on track. You will be supported in developing these skills.
