Manley first comments on the Britishness of Jamaica and himself and his own political career and background. The immediate post colonial situation is described by Manley, economically and socially. Manley describes the kind of radical changes he wishes to introduce in Jamaica. The Jamaican political democracy is described, why party rule has continued and why there is a tradition of political violence. Manley outlines the kind of socialism he envisages and the importance for Jamaica of a new economic order and a real transfer of resources.
